We want all of our customers to shop with confidence, so please take a few minutes to read through our terms and conditions of business.
By purchasing from Dumbledart's Bakery, you are agreeing to adhere to the terms laid out on this page.
Quotes for Bespoke Cakes:
For quotes, please send us a message through the Contact Us page. Where possible we ask for the following information to be supplied to us. A description of the occasion, the number of people the cake ideally needs to cater for, the theme/colour scheme of the cake and an idea of the budget you would like to spend. This is always helpful information for us when designing a cake, allowing us to know the certain limitations. Please also include a contact number where we are able to get in contact to discuss your order should we need too. We will endeavour to contact you within 24 hours, but during busier periods, this might be a little longer.
Once an idea is formed, we will then design your cake and email you with a copyrighted and watermarked image of your design, along with a detailed description of every aspect and a quote for the cost of producing this for you. The whole process usually takes around 2-3 days. The quote that you receive will be valid for 4 weeks. After this time, the cake would need to be re quoted to allow for any price fluctuations from our suppliers and also in case there are any items that are discontinued and need to be sourced elsewhere.
Ordering for Bespoke Cakes:
If you are happy with the quote that you have received from us and you would like to go ahead, we will require a 50% retainer which secures the booking and any items needed specifically to fulfil your order. This then enables us to start work on making any bespoke pieces that is needed for your cake, or indeed purchasing any items. The remaining balance for the cake will be due to us within a minimum of 3 weeks before the required pickup date (6 weeks if this is for a wedding cake). However, if you would like to simply pay for the entire cake in full at the point of ordering, this option is also available. If your bespoke order is made with 3 weeks or less notice (6 weeks for a wedding cake), then the payment must be made in full. All payments must be made via PayPal or bank transfer, for which, we can provide all the details to you.
We strongly recommend that you give us as much notice as possible, preferably atleast 4 weeks for all bespoke orders. We will always do our best to accommodate whenever possible if a order is placed for a cake in under the preferred 4 weeks time zone but this cannot be guaranteed.
Our Cakes:
All of our sponges are baked 2-3 days before the required date and are decorated the day before pickup. We only use quality ingredients and locally sourced free range eggs. For details on our fruit cakes, please see our Flavours and Fillings page. None of our cakes contain chemicals or preservatives, nor are they mass produced and then frozen. Each cake is baked and decorated with the highest level of care and attention to detail, whether you're spending £50 or £500, which is why we have the motto, 'Quality above anything else'.
Flavours:
We have a list of standard Flavours and Fillings that are included in the cost of your cakes. These are by no means the only ones that we provide. If there is a flavour that you would like that isn't on our list, please contact us and let us know what your favourite flavour and filling is and we will do our best to produce that for you. Non standard flavours and fillings may be subject to a small surcharge, but where possible, we will keep this cost to a minimum and try to absorb it ourselves.
Alcohol Related Cakes:
Dumbledart's Bakery is not a licensed premises to sell alcohol, nor do we have personal alcohol licenses. Therefore, any customer requiring a cake that has a can or bottle of alcohol as part of the decoration, MUST provide that to us, along with a receipt of where it was purchased and listed all of the contact details on of the customer. This way, if we are audited, we can prove that we did not provide the customer with any alcohol, and therefore are not in breach of any laws to do with the sale of alcohol.
We are allowed by law to use alcohol in the baking of our cakes, as this gets burnt off in the baking process. With buttercream and frosting, we use high quality concentrated flavourings that do not contain any alcohol. We are also NOT permitted to 'feed' our fruit cakes with alcohol once they have been baked.
Allergens:
Every cake that we produce contains WHEAT, GLUTEN, EGGS, and MILK and are produced in a home kitchen that also handles SOYA, TREE NUTS, PEANUTS, FISH & MEAT.
All intolerances or allergies MUST be conveyed to us BEFORE you order your cake from us, in writing , either via email or text.
Any cakes that are purchased for those living with an intolerance or allergy will be made using specific ingredients that are ‘Free From’. However, whilst we do all that we can to ensure that there is no cross contamination in our kitchen, whether it is within our storage or working practices, we cannot legally say that our cakes are ‘Gluten Free, Dairy Free, Nut Free’ etc. We use Renshaw fondant and modelling paste on our cakes, which is suitable for vegetarians and vegans, and is Kosher and Halal approved. However, it is produced in an environment that produces Marzipan, which contains Almonds. Should you wish to see a full list of their ingredients on their products, please click here. Anyone purchasing a cake for another that requires specific ingredients, will be made aware of all these details when they contact us, so that an informed choice is able to be made.
Once you are aware of our allergen protocols and risks involved and decide to place an order, we cannot be held accountable for any ill that may befall the recipient/s of the cake.
Every cake/box of cupcakes that leaves our kitchen, is clearly labelled detailing any/all the allergens that are present in that order.
Ordering our set cakes:
When ordering our set cakes, please be sure to include all of the options that you would like for your cake, as once the purchase has been processed it might not be possible to add to your order. Please also ensure that you have all of the following correct at the point of ordering as it may not be possible to rectify any mistakes after the order has been processed.
Payments and Refunds:
All payments must be placed for set cakes via PayPal at the point of ordering. For bespoke orders, this can be done via PayPal or bank transfer. Your purchase will not be confirmed until the payment has been received.
Should you need to cancel your order for any reason, you will be entitled to a refund minus any monies that have already been used on specifically purchased items for your order, or for time spent making items for a bespoke order.
If you cancel your order with only two or less weeks notice before the required date, all monies will be forfeited, as we are not guaranteed to be able to refill that booking.
Collections:
Currently, we do not offer a delivery service, but as time goes on, we are hoping to add this within our company.
With the current situation of the Covid-19 pandemic, we are offering contactless collections from our address. We contact customers on a weekend to arrange collections for the up and coming week. This includes setting a time that is mutually convenient for both us and the customer. Due to time restrictions and other customers collecting, all dates and time slots MUST be adhered to. Time slots are a 30 minute window so that there can be no overlapping with customers arriving and leaving. You will be sent images of your cake before you collect. We ask that you pull up in front of our home, open the boot of your vehicle and let us know that you have arrived. We then request that you either remain in your vehicle while we bring the cake out and place it into the boot of your car, or that you stand at a distance away that is safe for us both. We will then take images of the cake after it is placed into the boot of your vehicle.
Like a lot of people, we have family members who are still at a great risk from Covid-19 and we would hope that you can understand why we want to do all that we can to keep them safe.
Transportation:
We strongly recommend that all of the cakes we produce, no matter what size, are transported in the boot of your vehicle. This way they can remain flat during transit. It is the customers responsibility to ensure that there is a free space and that it is free of clutter so that nothing can fall onto the cake. We cannot be held responsible for any damage that happens to a cake after the handover. If a customer decides to remove the cake from the boot and carry it on their lap in the car, place it in a foot well or put it onto a seat, again we cannot be held responsible for any damage that may occur. Similarly we cannot accept any responsibility for damage to the cake as a result of reckless driving.
All of our cakes are made with transportation in mind, so they always contain a good internal structure to ensure that they will not collapse.
Portioning your cake:
If you portion your cake in the manner that we suggest on our Sizing Guide page, you will receive the correct number of slices of cake that we recommend. We cannot be held responsible if you do not follow these guides and therefore do not cut the correct amount of portions suggested.
Storing your cake:
Once you have portioned your cake and everyone has enjoyed it, should you find yourself with any left over, we recommend that it is wrapped in cling film and stored in an airtight container. Please do not put your cake into the fridge as this can dry it out, and whilst it might still be perfectly safe to eat, you won't be able to enjoy it as much. We suggest that to enjoy your order to its full potential, that it is consumed within 3-5 days of collection.
Reviews, Complaints and Transparency:
We love hearing positive reviews about our service and about our cakes as it gives other customers the confidence to buy from us. So please, leave a review, it doesn't need to be long but it will be a great help in seeing our business grow.
If for any reason we have not met your expectations and you are not happy with the service or the cake that you have received from us, please do not leave us a bad review straight away. Contact us and give us a chance to understand what our failings were and let us try to rectify the issue.
We are more than happy to display GENUINE bad reviews, as we believe in being fully transparent and that it can only strive to make us a better business and improve where we may be lacking. But please note, bad reviews that are NOT genuine, or contain malicious or offensive language will be removed and could be passed to our solicitors.
